THE MAP
Cortez Boulevard is your main artery and your main antagonist. US 19 is a six lane speedrun where the light timing appears to have been generated by a random number function. Mariner Boulevard and Spring Hill Drive are where the side quests live. The Suncoast Parkway is the fast travel option, which mostly means you arrive at the crash at a higher rate of speed.
KNOW YOUR NPCs
The Left Lane Cruiser. Holds 43 in a 55 for eleven miles. Cannot be honked at. Cannot be reasoned with.
The Perpetual Blinker. Signaling since the Georgia state line. The turn is not coming.
The Unsecured Trailer. Cargo restrained by ratchet straps, gravity and optimism. Read Florida Statute 316.520 before you tailgate one.
The Snowbird Sedan. Fifteen years of Ohio muscle memory applied to a Florida intersection. Brakes for pelicans, sunsets, and nothing else.
The Publix Parking Lot Boss. Reverses out of the space without looking, then acts insulted. Final boss. Unbeatable.
None of these drivers think they caused anything. All of them are in the police report.
LEVEL ONE: THE FOURTEEN DAY TIMER
Florida still runs on a no fault system, so your own policy pays first through Personal Injury Protection. That is $10,000 in benefits, covering 80 percent of reasonable and necessary medical expenses and 60 percent of lost wages. Here is the part players miss. If you do not get treatment within 14 days of the crash, the medical benefits are gone. Not reduced. Gone. It does not matter how bad the injury turns out to be in month three. Your timer expired in week two.
LEVEL TWO: THE BLAME METER
Since 2023, Florida uses modified comparative negligence. Your damages are cut by your share of fault, and if a jury puts you above 50 percent, you recover nothing at all. Fifty percent and you take half. Fifty one and you take a loss screen. This is why what you say at the scene matters. “I’m sorry, I didn’t see you” is not politeness in this game. It is a fault slider you moved yourself.
LEVEL THREE: THE COUNTDOWN
For crashes on or after March 24, 2023, you have two years to file a negligence lawsuit, down from the old four. There is no extension for being busy, and none for waiting to see whether the insurance company plans to be reasonable. When that clock hits zero, the claim is over no matter how strong it was.
SIDE OBJECTIVE: REPORT THE CRASH
Under Florida Statute 316.065, you must report a crash immediately if anyone is injured or killed, or if the apparent property damage is at least $500. On a current model year vehicle, $500 is a bumper cover and one sensor. Report it, and get the crash report number before you leave.
THERE ARE NO RESPAWNS
